About
In 1984 Stuart and Rex commenced a building partnership, taking over the Skyline franchise for the Nelson Tasman area in 1986. Diversifying into other building work came from a willingness to meet each client’s need and a can-do attitude.
Today Trubet employs a robust team of around 20 in the office, workshop and field, all qualified in various aspects of the building and joinery trades. Our team of professional trades people keep current with building code, material updates and practices, hold licensed design, licensed site, and licensed building practitioner certificates. Our staff are employees of the company, and competent in all aspects of Excavation, Concrete, Residential and Commercial Carpentry, Skyline Buildings, Kitchens & Joinery, Outdoor Furniture, and Garador Garage Doors and Automation.
Rex is now enjoying his well deserved retirement, while Stuart and his wife Beth are fully involved as working Directors in the management over all entities.
Offering award winning environmental sustainability practices in all our building projects, Trubet do not use skips on site and reduce waste to landfill by more than 70% since the early 2000’s!
Our core company principle over the past 16 years is our commitment in retaining all usable building materials for re-use, up-cycling, recycling and waste minimisation wherever possible.
Trubet are members of Master Builders, recipient to over 30 House of the Year Awards since 1994 winning both Gold award and Lifestyle Award Winner for Kitchen in 2014. These awards are given for excellence in workmanship well above industry standard, creativity and innovation.
WHAT WE DO
Excavator and Truck hire: Trubet have their own 5 tonne tipper truck, 2.9 tonne excavator and a loader, which means we have the equipment and expertise to undertake our own demolition works, site preparation, foundation excavation, augering for posts, removal and carting of spoil and fill.
Concrete placing, slab floors, driveways and paths: Our long term concrete placer has worked with Trubet in excess of 30 years, and we have an excellent team to produce well placed and finished concrete.
Retaining, Fencing, Decking, Pergolas, Garden edging and Hard Landscaping: Well versed in standard or Engineer designed Retaining or Decking, Timber or Steel fencing and Pergolas, concrete or timber garden edging with ability to undertake any aspect of timber or concrete landscaping features with paving, outdoor furniture, garden sheds and fixtures.
Additions, Alterations, Building Maintenance, Renovation, and Historic Trust Renovation: Trubet are a recognised provider of maintenance services to Service Resources Ltd, Restaurant Brands and other national asset managers around the top of the south, providing services to Enable NZ and ACC with accessibility modification work. We provide service to clients who wish to maintain their home as an asset by way of additions, alterations, or any maintenance or repair work.
Residential Housing: Working with you to design or use your design to construct your home to budget. We choose not to be volume home builders, but seek to realise people’s individuality in their home layout, material choice and design, remembering that owners, budget and site are key factors in any project. Being different doesn’t necessarily cost more, but proves people have choice and can own homes to reflect their individualism.

Light Commercial: Offices, Warehouses, Retail fit-outs. Working with clients, architects and project managers to cost, construct and manage all facets of contracts and sub-contractors.
Ministry of Education school buildings and maintenance: Many years experience constructing and renovating Education buildings to a high standard around the district. Constructing movable buildings in our yard and transporting to schools on both coasts as a finished project ready for hook-ups. Recent rebuild of a major potential leaky building achieving Ministry of Education highest weatherproofing standards.
Approved Maintenance Contractors for SRL for Enable & ACC, Cushman & Wakefield, Restaurant Brands and many other national franchise property managers: On call to many property managers to carry out maintenance work around the top of the south, using our own expertise and sub-contractors where necessary. Managing many small contracts within time frames specified.
Garador – Residential and Industrial Door and automation specialists: A wide range of residential and industrial roller, sectional and tilt doors along with automatic openers and remotes. Quotes, installations, door and automation issues, service and maintenance are treated in a timely manner to all clients with our experienced trades-people. We keep a stock of parts, motors and materials.
Accolade Kitchen & Joinery – Kitchens, Bench Tops, Wardrobes, Doors, Shelving: We purchased Accolade, a joinery business that has been going strong in the local region for nearly 30 years achieving quality economical and bespoke kitchen, joinery and interior furniture items. Replacing bench tops and re-facing cabinetry to new kitchens, interior doors or other furniture. Maintenance and repair work means longer useful life to existing furniture. No job too small or large!
Wills Rustic Furniture – Macrocarpa Outdoor & Indoor furniture: A range of handcrafted Macrocarpa dressed or slab furniture with tables, forms and seats. Mix and match a set with forms and seats. Perfect garden seating, outdoor dining, café or restaurant suites or memorial seats in parks with engraved plaques.
Recycled Materials, Demolition Re-use: Demolition and left over building materials are all re-used and sold where possible. Our beautifully made dog kennels are an example of what can be done with leftovers, insulated roof, carpet to the floor with painted weatherboard or oil-stained Ply. Small homes any pet would be proud to own. Beautiful native timbers stored means we have material for re-use in both joinery, flooring and feature items for your home.
