About Trubet Building & Joinery Ltd

An independent local business, building in and around Nelson since 1984

About

1984 Stuart and Rex commenced a building partnership, and in 1986 took over the Skyline franchise for the Nelson Tasman area. Diversification into other building work came from a willingness to meet the client’s need and a can-do attitude.

Today Trubet employs a team of around 16 covering management, joinery workshop and construction sites. All qualified in various aspects of building, garage doors and openers, maintenance, and joinery trades.  Our team of professional trades people keep current with building code, material updates and practices, hold licensed design, site, and building practitioner certificates.  Our staff are employees to Trubet, with competence in all aspects of Excavation, Concrete, Residential and Light Commercial Carpentry, Skyline Buildings, Kitchens & Joinery, Furniture, and Garador Garage Doors and Automation.

Rex earned his retirement in 2017, while Stuart and wife Beth are still involved as working Directors in management, are looking to cut back on hours with a younger generation of management coming through.

Trubet has award winning environmental sustainability practices in all our building projects. We do not use skips on our contract building sites and reduce waste to landfill by more than 70% since the early 2000’s by bringing all waste back to our yard and sort into re-usable and recyclable!

Our core company principle over the past 24 years is our commitment in retaining all usable building materials for re-use, up-cycling, recycling and waste minimisation wherever possible.

Trubet are registered members of Master Builders, recipient to over 30 House of the Year Awards since 1994 winning both Gold awards and Lifestyle Award Winners.  All awards are given for excellence in workmanship well above industry standard, creativity and innovation.

WHAT WE DO

Excavator / Trucks: Trubet own their own 5 tonne and 3 tonne tipper trucks,  2.9 tonne excavator and a loader, which means we have the equipment and expertise to undertake our own demolition works, site preparation, foundation excavation, auger holes for posts, removal and cartage of spoil and fill.

Concrete:  Trubet does all their own concrete preparation and placement work, and we have an excellent team to produce well placed and finished concrete for foundations, slabs, paths, driveways, and more.

Retaining, Fencing, Decking, Pergolas, Garden edging and Hard Landscaping: Well versed in standard or Engineer designed Retaining or Decking,  Timber or Steel fencing and Pergolas, concrete or timber garden edging with ability to undertake any aspect of timber or concrete landscaping features with paving,  outdoor furniture, garden sheds and fixtures.

Additions, Alterations, Building Maintenance, Renovation, and Historic Trust Renovation:  Trubet are recognised and approved providers of maintenance services to BGIS, MSD and other national property managers around the top of the south,  providing services to Enable NZ, Accessible Properties and ACC with accessibility modification work.   We provide service to clients who wish to maintain their home as an asset by way of additions, alterations, or any maintenance or repair work.

Residential Housing:  Working with you to design or use your concepts to design and construct your home to budget.  We choose not to be volume home builders, but seek to realise people’s individuality in their home layout, material choice and design, remembering that owners, budget and site are key factors in any project.  Being different doesn’t necessarily cost more, but proves people have choice and can own homes to reflect their individualism.

Over 25 years of Master Builders House of the Year awards show our commitment to quality building practices and finishing work with recognition of these achievements as above industry standards.

Transportable Units: More frequently in the past few years, it has proved beneficial to all parties to complete the building project in movable pods or transportable sized units here in our yard, and move to site once foundations are completed. This enables us to oversee the project in close proximity where the final destination may be hours away usually at no additional cost.

Light Commercial: Offices, Warehouses, Retail fit-outs. Working with clients, architects and project managers to cost, construct and manage all facets of contracts and sub-contractors.

GARADOR – Residential and Industrial Door, Maintenance and automation specialists:  A wide range of residential and industrial roller, sectional and tilt doors along with automatic openers and remotes.  Quotes, installations, door and automation issues, service and maintenance are treated in a timely manner to all clients with our experienced trades-people.  We keep a stock of parts, motors and materials.

ACCOLADE Kitchen & Joinery – Kitchens, Bench Tops, Wardrobes, Doors, Shelving:  We purchased Accolade nearly 15 years ago, a joinery business that had been going strong in the local region for nearly 30 years achieving quality economical and bespoke kitchen, joinery and interior furniture items, along with commercial school, hospital, vineyard and apartment project joinery for larger construction companies.  Replacing bench tops and re-facing cabinetry to new kitchens, interior doors or other furniture.  Maintenance and repair work means longer useful life to existing furniture.  No job too small or large!

FURNITURE – A selection of handcrafted dressed Macrocarpa seats.  Perfect garden seating, outdoor dining, café or memorial seats for parks or reserves with engraved plaques.

Recycled Materials, Demolition Re-use: Demolition and left over building materials are all re-used and sold where possible.  Our beautifully made dog kennels are an example of what can be done with leftovers, insulated roof, carpet to the floor with painted weatherboard or oil-stained Ply.  Small homes any pet would be proud to own.  Beautiful native timbers stored means we have material for re-use in both joinery, flooring and feature items in your home.
